Processing Laboratory

Processing Laboratory

The main function of the PCIR Processing Lab is to quickly transport the biological samples from the bedside to the laboratory for processing in the most efficient manner possible.

The lab has three refrigerated high speed centrifuges used to process samples (serum, plasma, whole blood buffy coat, urine, etc.), adhering to the protocol approved by the Translational Technologies and Novel Methodologies (TTNM) committee.  The specimens are stored in the PCIR -80 freezers, -20 freezers, or refrigerators.  These samples can be stored in the lab for a short period, not to exceed 6 months.  If long-term storage is requested, advance notice is required.  No testing of samples is done in this lab.

All equipment is monitored by the staff and on an alarm system connected to the physical security facility 24/7.
